Cabinet Plans

These cabinet plans are built as frameless (European-style) boxes from 18 mm sheet goods: two sides, a top and bottom or rails, a back, shelves and overlay doors. Enter the size you need and every panel is recalculated, doors and gaps included.

Cabinet Plans

Frameless cabinets are the fastest kind to build from MDF, melamine or plywood: everything is a rectangle, so a saw, a drill and a hinge bit are enough. Each plan below lists the parts, the edges to band and how many sheets you need.

Every cabinet here is simple to build, from a single storage cabinet to a whole room. The same methods build a gun cabinet with a notched barrel rest, a full-size arcade cabinet in MDF and a pedestal that raises the washer and dryer.

Frequently asked questions

What is the easiest cabinet to build?

A frameless box with a nailed-on back and overlay doors. It has no face frame, so every part is a rectangle cut from a sheet.

What thickness of board is used for cabinets?

Most cabinets use 16 to 19 mm (5/8 to 3/4 in) board for the carcass and doors, and 3 to 6 mm (1/8 to 1/4 in) for the back.
