How to convert inches to millimetres
One inch is exactly 25.4 mm, so multiply inches by 25.4. For a fraction, divide first: 5/8 in is 5 ÷ 8 = 0.625 in, and 0.625 × 25.4 = 15.875 mm. A size like 3 5/8 in is 3.625 × 25.4 = 92.075 mm.
To go the other way, divide millimetres by 25.4, then multiply the part after the decimal point by 16 and round it to find the nearest 1/16 in. 18 mm is 0.7087 in; 0.7087 × 16 = 11.3, so the nearest sixteenth is 11/16 in, about 0.5 mm small.
Why plywood sizes do not match exactly
Sheet goods sold in inches are often metric underneath, and the other way round. “3/4 in” plywood is usually 23/32 in (18.3 mm), and 18 mm board is 0.709 in, a little under 3/4. Measure the real thickness with calipers before cutting dadoes or sizing parts, and let the cut list work in the unit your tape measure uses.
