Two-Door Wardrobe Plans

A two-door wardrobe in two sections: adjustable shelves on the left, and on the right a hanging space under a hat shelf. Type the outside size of your space: sides, divider, shelves, back and doors are recalculated, and a back wider than your sheet is flagged so you can split it.

How it is built

  • The hat shelf sits 320 mm below the top.
  • A back wider than the sheet does not fit in one piece: the cut layout flags it.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting the room ceiling: a 2200 mm tall, 580 mm deep wardrobe needs about 2280 mm to tilt upright.

Tools you need

  • Panel saw or track saw
  • Drill/driver
  • 35 mm hinge bit
  • Edge banding iron

Frequently asked questions

How deep should a wardrobe be?

About 580–600 mm outside, 560 mm inside, so clothes on hangers do not touch the doors.

Where does the hanging rail go?

Just under the hat shelf, 50–60 mm below it. Long coats and dresses need about 1500 mm under the rail, shirts and jackets about 1000 mm.

How wide can it be?

Up to 2000 mm, but keep each section under 900 mm so the shelves do not sag; the plan warns you.

Will it fit under my ceiling?

You need the diagonal of the side to tilt it up: about 2280 mm for a 2200 mm tall, 580 mm deep wardrobe. Build it 50–80 mm lower than the ceiling.
