Lego Table Plans

A play table for building bricks, trains or puzzles: a top with a raised rim so pieces stay on the table, panel legs, and a low shelf that takes storage bins. Glue building baseplates on the top, or leave it plain for drawing and crafts.

How it is built

  • The rim is glued and screwed onto the top edges, so pieces cannot roll off.
  • The legs are set in 20 mm, the back rail and the shelf keep them square.
  • Round every corner and edge before finishing, and use a toy-safe finish.

Common mistakes

  • Making the table taller than the child’s waist: younger children cannot reach the middle.
  • Leaving sharp corners on the rim.

Tools you need

  • Track saw or table saw
  • Drill/driver
  • Sander

Frequently asked questions

What height should a kids play table be?

About 450–550 mm (18–22 in) for children of 3 to 8 years, so they can stand or kneel at it; 500 mm suits most.

How do I attach LEGO baseplates?

With double-sided carpet tape or a thin layer of contact cement, laid out from one corner so the studs line up across plates.

What size should the table be?

About 800 × 600 mm for one or two children; the rim height of 30 mm stops pieces rolling off.
