Entertainment Center Plans

A full TV wall built from separate boxes: a tower of shelves on each side with doors at the bottom, a low media base between them, and a bridge of open shelves across the top. Each box is small enough to carry and fits standard sheets; screwed together they make one wall unit framing the TV.

How it is built

  • Build four boxes: two towers, the media base and the bridge. Screw them together through the tower sides.
  • The base and the bridge get a divider for every 800 mm, so no shelf sags.
  • The doors cover the lower part of each tower, up to the height of the base.
  • Fix the towers to the wall studs: a tall, loaded unit with a TV is heavy at the top.

Common mistakes

  • Sizing the TV opening to the TV exactly: leave about 75 mm all round for air and cables.
  • Forgetting cable holes: drill 60 mm holes in the base back and the base dividers before assembly.

Tools you need

  • Track saw or table saw
  • Drill/driver
  • 35 mm hinge bit
  • Shelf-pin jig
  • Clamps

Frequently asked questions

How big should the TV opening be?

About 150 mm (6 in) wider and taller than the TV: a 65 in TV is about 1440 × 810 mm, so it needs an opening of about 1600 × 960 mm.

How deep should an entertainment center be?

About 400–450 mm (16–18 in) so the media base takes a receiver or a console, and the TV can stand on it if it is not wall-mounted.

Can I build it in parts?

Yes, that is how it is designed: build the two towers, the base and the bridge as separate boxes, then screw them together on site.
