Cornhole Board Plans
A pair of cornhole boards built to the regulation size: a 24 × 48 in (610 × 1219 mm) plywood top on a frame of strips ripped from the same sheet, a middle brace, and two legs that fold flat inside the frame for storage. Unfold the legs and the back of the board stands 12 in (305 mm) high.

How it is built
- Cut the 6 in (152 mm) hole with its centre 9 in (229 mm) from the back edge, in the middle of the width.
- Each leg pivots on a bolt through the side rail 50 mm from the back; standing, it lifts the back edge to 12 in (305 mm).
- Rip the frame strips from an 18 mm sheet; the top is the “fronts” board in the app, so you can choose birch plywood for it. Glue and screw the top to the frame from above and fill the screw holes.
- A 4 × 8 sheet gives four tops just under 24 × 48 in after the saw cuts; 2 × 4 ft project panels give the exact size.
Common mistakes
- Making the frame taller than about 3 in: with a 3/4 in top, the front edge ends up over the 4 in limit.
- Leaving the surface rough: sand to 220 grit and seal it, or the bags will not slide.
Tools you need
- Circular saw or table saw
- Jigsaw
- Drill/driver
- Clamps
- Sander
Frequently asked questions
What size is a regulation cornhole board?
24 × 48 in (610 × 1219 mm), with a 6 in (152 mm) hole centred 9 in from the top edge, the back edge 12 in off the ground and the front edge 2.5–4 in.
What plywood is best for cornhole boards?
3/4 in (18 mm) birch or Baltic birch plywood: smooth, flat and stiff, so bags slide evenly and the board does not bounce.
How do I cut the hole?
Mark the centre 9 in (229 mm) from the back edge and in the middle of the width, draw a 6 in circle, drill a starter hole and cut it with a jigsaw. Sand the edge smooth.
Can I make smaller boards?
Yes: the plan resizes from 500 × 900 mm for children or the backyard, but leagues play on the full 24 × 48 in.
