Cornhole Board Dimensions

An official cornhole board is 24 × 48 in (610 × 1219 mm), with a 6 in (152 mm) hole centred 9 in (229 mm) from the top and 12 in from each side. The top of the back edge is 12 in (305 mm) off the ground, the front edge 2.5–4 in (64–102 mm). Regulation boards are set 27 ft (8.2 m) apart, front edge to front edge. These are the ACL (American Cornhole League) regulation dimensions. Step-by-step instructions are in how to build cornhole boards.

The slope comes from the legs: they lift the back edge to 12 in while the front edge rests on the frame. A 3 in (75 mm) frame under a 3/4 in top gives a front edge of about 3.7 in, inside the limit.

Bags and scoring

Regulation bags are about 6 × 6 in and 15–16 oz, with one side that slides fast and one that grips. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, a bag on the board 1; points cancel out between the two players each round, and the first to 21 wins.

Building regulation boards

One 4 × 8 sheet of 3/4 in plywood gives four tops, enough for two pairs: rip it in half lengthwise and cut each strip in two. The quarters come out a saw kerf under 24 × 48 in; 2 × 4 ft project panels give the exact size. The frames are 3 in strips ripped from another sheet. Sand the top to 220 grit and seal it so bags slide evenly.

Frequently asked questions

What are the official cornhole board dimensions?

24 in wide and 48 in long (610 × 1219 mm), with a 6 in (152 mm) hole centred 9 in from the top edge and 12 in from each side. The back edge stands 12 in off the ground, the front edge 2.5–4 in.

How far apart are cornhole boards?

27 ft (8.2 m) between the front edges in regulation play, which puts the holes about 33 ft apart. Children and casual players often use 21 ft.

What size are cornhole bags?

About 6 × 6 in (15 × 15 cm) and 15–16 oz (about 450 g), filled with resin pellets or corn.

What thickness of plywood for cornhole boards?

3/4 in (18 mm) birch or Baltic birch plywood for a smooth, stiff top that does not bounce; 1/2 in works on a frame with a middle brace.
